Fight the Colds

16 Nov

 Good Evening!

Today was an A day, meaning a no school day for us. We started it out with sleeping in tell the late hours of the morning about 9:30. Then, came downstairs to some Oatgurt. We have been battling with our school for the past two weeks about taking college courses next semester, because they were trying to talk us out of it. Luckily though, after having a meeting with the Assistant Principal and our counsler we got the whole thing worked out. Thank Goodness ūüôā Our school is only a few years old, so they are really uninformed about this program that we are currently in.

Todays workout was Day 3 of Fitnessista’s Bridal Bootcamp

1. Warm up: 5 minutes, cardio of choice, bringing it from low to moderate intensity (ie, start by walking and then bring it up to a jog by the end of 5 minutes) ~Instead we did Month 1 Insanity warm up

2. Plie squat and bicep curl– do 10 squat and curls, then hold the squat position and curl 10 times

3. Bent-over row and tricep kickback (15- I like to do it with both arms at once and feet under my hips, knees slightly bent. Make sure to gaze at the floor to keep your spine straight)

5. Single leg deadlift (10 on each side)

6. Saxon side bend (10 on each side)

Cardio blast 1: Burpees (1 minute) ‚Äď repeat circuit #‚Äôs 2-8

Cardio blast 2: Suicide runs (run to right, touch the floor and run back to the left) 30 seconds, floor sprints 30 seconds ‚Äď repeat circuit #‚Äôs 2-8

 Post-Workout Fuel: Kombucha!!

¬†This was our first time trying this brand of Kombucha, and it tasted like Orange Soda! ūüôā Awesome. This brand has a little more sugar and carbs than GT’s Kombucha, but it taste WAY better.

¬†Navitas Natural’s was extremely kind to send us once again another package. In this package we got Hemp seeds and another supply of Antioxidant Trail Mix that we got a while back from them.

“Hemp seeds have long been recognized as an excellent source of energy. With a rich nutty flavor that is reminiscent of a sunflower seed, Navitas¬†Naturals Hemp Seeds are pre-shelled, soft, and delicious. They can be eaten straight from the bag; sprinkled on top of vegetables, soups, yogurt, and cereals; mixed into baked recipes; or blended into a gourmet nut butter. This remarkable superfood is an excellent protein source ‚Äď with eight grams of protein per 2 tablespoons‚Äď and contains all ten essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. Hemp also offers a perfect balance of Omega 3, 6, and 9 (the Essential Fatty Acids), and is a good source of magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium.¬†“~Navitas Naturals

The stats:

They looked kinda like Quinoa, or Couscous.

For lunch today, we decided to cook up a spaghetti Squash, some Broiled Tilapia, and throw in some of our new Hemp Seeds.

In the mix:

Serves 2

  • 2 cups of cooked spaghetti squash
  • 1 Bleu Cheese Laughing cow wedge (melted in)
  • Pepper
  • Sea Salt
  • Garlic Powder
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 tbs¬†Navitas Naturals Hemp Seeds
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • broccoli
  • Spinach

-2 Broiled Tilapia Rubbed w/ Old bay Seasoning, and Hot Wing Sauce

The Hemp Seeds were a great addition, and a good source of protein to refuel those muscles after that Intense workout.

With the cold weather, and all the sickness that is going around, we thought that we would tell you about some natural remedies for those nasty colds:

Got a cough?- Try Thyme

Add three tablespoons of dried thyme to one pint of boiling water. Let cool, then add one cup of honey. Take one teaspoon every hour as needed. You can store the mix in the fridge for up to three months.

Got a Runny Nose?- Try Garlic

Just add garlic to your meals for both a short-term treatment and long-term fortification against the next cold or flu virus

Got a Sore Throat?- Drink Some Tea

For a sore throat, the tea remedy is as old as time, it seems. Try jujube tea for an extra vitamin C boost.

Got a Headache?-Eat Some Carrots

Phytonutrients in fresh produce, like the beta-carotene in carrots, can reduce inflammation in the blood vessels of the brain. Eating two cups a day can help some people reduce headache incidence by 70 percent!

Digestive Track out of Whack-Eat Pineapple

Eating well during the holiday season is a goal more than a reality for many of us. All that bad food can make your digestive tract complain loudly.

Make a half cup of pineapple part of your routine to reduce intestinal inflammation, speed the breakdown of protein and, most important, reduce gas.

Not getting Good Sleep-Try Celery

Cold nights, the stress of the holiday season and the shifting hourglass sands brought on by the end of Daylight Savings can throw off your sleep pattern.

If all the usual non-medicinal remedies have failed you, try munching some celery for the sedative powers of the phthalides it contains.

Some other Go to Products when you feel that sickness coming on are:

We have tried both Emergen-C and Airborne in the past, and they work like a charm.

Well guys, have a great rest of your week ūüôā

No dilly dally

25 Aug

That has been the motto of lately. HA! If any of you have done the Turbo Fire workout program than you may or may not recall Monica Gray who says “No dilly¬†dally dilly dally, just go hard with intensity, get the job done and then go back home to your real life.” This past week and weekend has consisted of 3 days of work, school, homework, and Working out. Yikes! Is anyone else struggling with the back to school routine?

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Monday morning was the First day of school. Well kinda. Do you remember how we told you how we are also taking two night-time college courses this year? Since we are seniors, this year we only have to take 5 classes, but since we have those 2 colleges courses, then¬†we only really have to take 3 courses¬†at school. After talking to our counselor, our schedule got all rearranged beautifully! We have highschool every other day now ūüôā The three classes we are taking at school are:

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† -Whit’s-

  • 1b- AP Phycology(We have this together)
  • 2b-English 121 Lit
  • 3b-Precalc

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†-Court’s-

  • 1b-AP Phycology
  • 2b-College Algebra
  • 3b-English 121 Lit

Then, on Tuesdays and Thursday nights from 6-8:40 we go to Humanities and Art Appreciation. The school pays for these classes, and so basically by the time we really do go to college we will be entering as sophomores. Pretty Cool, right? What I have learned so far is that College courses are way more chill and layed back than highschool. Court and I had a lot of fun last night at our Humanities class, and our teacher looks like Santa. lol! All I can say is having every other day off is Awesome ūüôā¬†We both¬†got all¬†our HW done last night, so that today¬†we could just relax. And it was super nice to sleep in, in the middle of the week. We even had enough energy to do an intense workout. We managed to whip out 40 minutes of INSANITY, plus some AB action. Cheers to a great senior year ahead!

Have you ever heard of Navita’s Naturals?¬†Well if not, their products are defiantly¬†something to rave about. They sell nutrient rich food that range from Chia, flax, cacao, dried fruits and nuts,¬†fruit powders, and much more. In our lovely package we received Trail mix, Pomegranate powder, and Mulberries.

The trail mix has a variety of different dried fruits I have never even tried. And to a surprise they were all GOOD! This is looking like a great school snack already. ūüôā

The first thing we decided to make with this Pomegranate powder was POM overnight oats.

We mixed in 1 tbs into a 1/2 cup of oats a little plain greek yogurt, and the addition of Amazing grass berry mix.

**Verdict~Very fruity and perfectly sweet.

This Elvis Wich was great fuel for a 2 hr and 40 min college class

Maple coffee oats never fail!

And neither do Fresco Chicken Sausage w/ a Sweet Potato

Guess What, Tomorrow is Friday for us!!! We just gotta go to our 3 classes at school, and then Art Appreciation at night, and Friday NO SCHOOL. ūüôā That well be 100% motivation to get through tomorrow. Easy Piecy¬†right. School out at 12:45, go home to eat lunch, workout, prep dinner, work on a lil’ HW,¬† go to college class, and then FREEDOM! Now remember tomorrow “No dilly¬†dally dilly¬†dally! Just go and get the job done.” HAHAHA. Make that your motto, trust us it will get you through the day. Life is good ūüôā
