You wanna know something scary…?

7 Aug

Did ya ever think that there was someone out there that was so much like you… it was kind of creepy? lol Well let me introduce you to Ben. He is a fellow healthy foodie fighting to change the teenage perception of what “good food” really is. Ben has already started a “food revolution” at his school.  And get this he is only a JUNIOR in high school! It was plain and simple for him. He was fed up with the junk food and sweets in the cafeteria and in the vending machines so he did something about it. Ben met with Food Services about changing the menu and food offerings, and they are all for it! He met with Food Services about changing the menu and food offerings, and they were all for it. I wish I had the guts to something like that 🙂 They are even going to start selling his recipe for granola.(How awesome would it be to be able to sell one of your own recipes!)

Ok… ok now this is where the scary part comes in. He works at a bakery too! Anyways I thought I would inform you all of this fabulous revolution. If you would like more info. about it visit here

Today has been the best Saturday, not too hot and not too cold. So you know what that means perfect running weather! After breakfast Whit and I laced up and ran on the trails around our house until we got to the farthest park. Once we got to the park Whit and I ran sprints in the grass. Have you ever ran sprints across an unmoved field? There is only one word to describe it PURE RESISTANCE! My lunges definitely got a workout. After all of that running we were burned out so we walked home and did Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown on demand.

For breakfast this morning we visited an old friend: Cereal and AB toast!

LUNCH:

An egg puff…

And a green tea frappe!

Gotcha! It was a green monster 😛

Serves 1:

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop chocolate amazing grass
  • 1/2 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp flax oil
  • 1 tbs chocolate better n’ pb

Snack: A yogurt mess never fails 🙂

After lunch Whit and I went back to school shopping. We went to Target and spent hours there! When we got back our dad was like, “Where’d you go after Target?” No where. Target has anything and everything. When ever Whit and I go there it is a whole day’s event. We can spend hours there. Check out all of the goodies we bought:

Brand new planners!

A smokey eye kit. It was cheap, but I have heard a lot of good reviews about this kit.

A military jacket! This was screaming Whit’s name.

And lastly a pair of boot cut jeans 🙂

Dinner was a veggie filled wrap and fruit salad.

I LOVE sprouts! They are perfect in a wrap, on a sandwich, in a salad, ect.

Oh and before I go, it is my turn to bring my guns into this show! Have you brought yours yet?

Got to get some sleep before work in the AM!

Friday May 28th-
WEEK EIGHT OFFICIALLY CROSSED OFF!

TGIF!

For those of you that are going to the movies tonight, I would definitely recommend Sex and the City 2. Last night me, whit, our oldest sister and brother(both in their 20’s) and his wife went to opening night. This is the first good movie that I have seen a LONG time. If you need a laugh then this is the movie for you to go and see. Everyone agreed that this movie was definitely funnier than the last, but people around us were saying that they could relate to the first movie more. Also everyone agreed that the movie could have done without the sex scenes. They are just awkward to watch and nobody wants to see it!

While Whit and I waited for our sister Karstee  to get home, we were starting to get really hungry so we decided to split an 18 rabbits bar for a light snack.

Here are the nutritional stats…

and the story behind this company

Look how BIG it is!

Here was the intention for making this bar:
“Haute Diggity Date was created to give our road bike friends extra energy to get up those hills across the Golden Gate Bridge.”

**VERDICT: This bar was so incredibly soft that it reminded me of a homemade chewy granola bar right out of the oven! It was so awesome, I loved the big pecan pieces 🙂

When she finally arrived home we left the house right away so that we could pick up sandwiches from Which Wich? before the movie. Since it was about 5:30 there was tons of traffic, so it took about 30 minutes to get there. I got the buffalo chicken on wheat, and Whit got the Caprese. I love this place. You just walk in grab a bag and write down everything you want on it, then you give it to the people to make. It is so much easier than Subway! Shortly after we rushed to the movie. It was such a fun night 🙂

This morning Whit and I awoke from another 10 glorious hours of sleep! We had a blueberry western bagel and some pear slices.

Mmm nothing like PB & J in the morning 😉

The pear slices had flaxseed almond butter drizzled over the top.

Man…. I am so exhausted from today. We were literally shopping all day. My feet, legs, back and everything is killing me. Our mom took us to Park Meadows mall to pick out our homecoming dresses for next year. That is right we always get our dresses about a week before the school year is out. Ladies still in middle or high school this is the time to buy your homecoming/ prom dress. Macy’s, Nordstom, and Dillards mark down all of their dresses, and there are hundreds still to pick from. We ended up spending 7 1/2 hours there and both found a homecoming dress. Unfortunately none of the prom dresses fit because we are too short. So I guess we are just going to have to go back again and find one that can easily be altered.
Does anybody else have a problem finding a prom dress that fits?
Our mommy bought our dresses, so we bought her lunch at Subway before the long ride back home.

Just when we thought the shopping ended there, Whit and I still had to grocery shop for the family. So about another two hours of walking around shopping, and we were finally able to come home and relax. There was no need for a workout today because for one we normally take the day off on Friday, and two we probably burned a zillion calories with all of that walking today.

It was 91 degrees in Colorado today, so something cold for dinner was a MUST! We had green monsters with a classic pb and pumpkin wrap 🙂

This monster was not as thick since we used the bananas we picked up today since there were no frozen ones 😦

This meal never fails to satisfy!

Ok now on to Summer Shape up. If you are like us and do not really like to work out on Friday’s then make it something fun. Go shopping like we did, go for a bike ride, do a dance video, jump on a trampoline, go outside and do the kid things that you used to do like jump rope/pogo stick/ roller blade/ ect. All that matters is that you at least DO SOMETHING. With the holiday weekend coming up, most pools are opening up so have a BBQ and go swimming with your family! Or maybe even a game of basketball/ volleyball outside. When you are doing something with your family and working out, the equation is complete. After this weekend, I want to hear back from you guys about what you did to get moving!

Now on to the meal plan of the day- If you are looking to feel good/ energetic, then here is a sample day for you:

Breakfast
-1 whole-wheat bran muffin topped with 1t nut butter (cashew, peanut, or almond)
– ½ cup canned pineapple chunks in juice
-1 cup low-fat milk, steamed and flavored with cinnamon and ½ t of sugar. Cinnamon enhances sweet flavors, so you’ll find you need less to get the same taste effect!

Lunch
-Zesty grilled cheese sandwich: 2 slices whole-wheat bread, 2 tbs cheddar cheese, 1 small green pepper, 1 medium sliced tomato. Use a sandwich toaster or non-stick pan (can be prepared the night before and reheated in the microwave at work).
-1½ cups canned tomato soup
-Coleslaw Salad: Combine 1/3 cup grated carrots, 1/3 cup grated cabbage, 1 tablespoon raisins, 2 tablespoons fat-free mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, and salt and pepper to taste

-Water or diet decaffeinated soda drink

Dinner
-Mango Chutney Chicken: Top a 4 1/2 oz. grilled chicken breast with a mixture of 3 tablespoons chutney and ¼ cup diced mango
– ½ cup steamed fresh green beans
-1 cup lettuce with 1 tablespoon low-fat dressing
-1 small muffin and ½ cup fresh strawberries

Snack(whenever you need it)
1 cup air-popped popcorn

Will I am off to bed, I have work at 6 tomorrow instead of 8! Have a good night 🙂

2 more weeks BAAA-BB-AYYY

21 May

It’s Friday, It’s Friday!

Who is excited? We are! Week 7 is crossed off. 2 more weeks. Ahh, we are almost there. Thank god this was the last full week though. Next week we have Thursday off for Graduation, and the week after that Monday off for Memorial Day. It is so crazy, we are going to be Seniors soon! Now it’s just time to get through finals, and History’s is a 40 min presentation on a Decade, and our group got the 60’s. I don’t think we’ll do good on that one. History is our only class together, and we got sucky people in our group, who do not know what is going on. So far we have nothing for our presentation, and we’re the first group to go next Friday. Just our luck! Right? This is the worst Final I’ve ever had to do. What has been the worst Final you’ve ever taken?

Thursday Recap- Today was the senior Exit assembly. So basically the whole school gets together, and we celebrate the Seniors leaving, then they go to Elitches, and we are bummed while heading back to class. Since the assembly took up like all of first period, we had an extended period making second period end later too. So instead of getting out at 10:45, we got out at 11:15. When we got home, we made lunch, and attempted to make homemade coconut butter! After lunch Whit was so tired that when we were hanging out in her room, she fell asleep. Then, I got bored and tired with no one to hangout with, so I decided to take a nap too. At about 3 our mom called, waking us up from our nap to tell us “Meet me at Albertson’s, so we can go Grocery Shopping together.” After we all went grocery shopping, we took a short walk around the neighborhood, and completed Level 3 of the 30 day shred. It was so HOTT outside, so something cold was the only thing that sounded good. We decided a HUMUNGO Green Monster with Rice Pecan Bread sounded Ideal. It was a long day that left no motivation for Homework at all. I managed to get a lot done, but Whit did not even to close to all the HW she had and went to bed. I think this week has really drained her. LOL.

Thursday 5/20

 Breakfast:

  • Yogi Peach Detox Tea
  • Spinach laughing cow Egg whites
  • Apple Cinnamon Raisin Toast

 Lunch

  • Veggie Burger Salad
  • Sweet Cinnamon Sweet potato Fries

There were two dips involved for the fries:

1. Agave and Cinnamon

 2. Honey Greek yogurt mixed with melted Mighty maple PB, and Cinnamon

 Dinner:

Today’s Recap-  We woke up to a new modified Coffee Oats! This one is called Strawerry(Cherry/strawberry) Mocha cappuccino Oats, using one of the lovely things we picked up yesterday. Bolthouse Mocha Cappuccino Juice was a recommendation Courtesy of TeenHealthFreak. Thanks girl, it rocks!

After that recipe worth breakfast, we headed off to school for a long 8 hrs of our day. While there, we accomplished a lot and therefore have hardly any HW. Go US! Some recipes I have been dying to try lately are Almond Joy Silken Cheesecake, Chai Tea Granola, and Banana Bars! Such great recipes, and when the time comes THEY WILL BE MADE ♥♥♥

So far there are not too many plans for this weekend other than work of course. I cannot wait to have myself a White Chocolate Mocha tomorrow at work. Whoop Whoop!

Look what we came home to, A Generous and very Large package from Newman’s Own Organic’s!

For an afternoon snack, we decided to try the Chocolate O’s and Cinnamon Hermit Cookie First.

 Chocolate Newman’s O’s:

  • Is not hydrogenated
  • Contains no trans-fatty acids
  • Is lower in saturated fat than butter and has no cholesterol
  • Is widely used in Europe as an alternative to partially hydrogenated oils
  • Is extracted from the palm’s fruit not the palms kernel
  • Can be grown organically in tropical regions
  • **Verdict- The taste is identical to a chocolate Oreo, but these are organic, and made from 100 X healthier ingredients. LOVE That!

    Cinnamon Newman’s Own Hermit’s:

They are filled with delicious organic raisins and sweetened with organic molasses. These spicy, chewy cookies are said to have originated in Colonial New England.

**Verdict- Woah, I have never gotten a baked cookie like this one from the store! These are amazing, so soft, chewy, and taste HOMEMADE. So far our Fav cookie till we sample the rest.

~So far the family is loving all of these goodies to try!
