Friday the Thirteenth

13 Aug

“Friday the 13th occurs when the thirteenth day of a month falls on a Friday, which superstition holds to be a day of bad luck.”

With today being Friday the 13th, Whit and I coincidentally started our morning off with bad luck.

-Whit spilled a HUGE glass of ice water all over herself when she was tying her shoes before work. With Colorado’s high altitude you cannot go anywhere without water! Whenever we leave the house we always bring a glass with us.
-We hit almost every single yellow light driving to work. I hate yellow lights more than anything. My heart always starts racing because you have to decide whether to gun it or SLOW DOWN!
-Got cursed with the yellow light that has 50 cameras(this intersection is one big $$moneymaker$$!). With out even thinking we just flew through the light before it had time to flash on us. Whit and I did not want to get a ticket because for one we cannot afford to pay for it, it would put points our license, our insurance would go up, and lastly our parents stop paying the other half of the insurance if we get a ticket.
-At work I was cashier. I had to get more manager swipes than normal, I had trouble counting money(which is not normal for me), and I had to get my drawer opened twice(that’s the max you can have in a day!)

Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. “It’s been estimated that [US]$800 or $900 million is lost in business on this day”.

Boy is this true! Today was FREE BAGEL FRIDAY and we got a small morning rush. THAT WAS IT! This was definitely not a normal free bagel friday. Usually we have non-stop customers one after the other all day that you do not even have time to go to the bathroom. Our whole staff has to wear black shirts and by the end of the day we all look like we just rolled in a pile of cream cheese. If you have to work a Friday then all you want to do is pull your hair out.. but today there was just a bunch of slow hours with only a few customers. My boss checked to see how much money the store had made around noon and we were nowhere near our average. I guess it is true that everybody has superstitions about this day. What about you, does Friday the 13th scare you? Have you noticed a run of bad luck on this day? Tell me about it 😛

MMM, cheesy layers of alfredo, chicken, spinach, ham & onions. Divine!

Before we go, I just want to really enforce the saying “Do not judge a book by its cover.” This has been a constant theme lately when it comes to work. A fellow employee of ours is in a halfway house, and appears to have anger issues, so everyone at work chooses to ignore him, or bite his face off. That is everyone, except Court and I. We talk to this guy all the time, and he is really nice and a pretty funny guy if you get to know him. At work he is known as the “Fronter,” meaning that he takes out the trash, stocks things, and makes all coffee/drinks. He is a nice guy, who no longer wants to be referred to as the janitor. He wants to work on the line with everyone else and make some food. When he told our boss that, then he was only given one day to try the position out. It was a disaster! I was being so nice and showing him how to make every sandwich, etc and when he was slow other employees got frustrated. Then, he yelled out “I am not fast, because I am Dyslexic!” This other girl screamed at him, and was like “God you suck at this, why don’t you just read the screen, ITS NOT THAT HARD!” His face was really red, and he looked like he was going to cry. This really made me sad to see. He is someone who will do the work right, if you support him and give him direction. All the time when we are closing, Court and I will have to yell for him to come help, and he does just fine. As long as you give him clear directions, then he will follow. Anyways, everyone at work has assumed the worst of this guy, but Court and I think he is awesome J He talks to us everyday at work, and today he was nice enough to bring back some fries from Arby’s for us. He said “Hey Court and Whit, I got you guys some fries.” Okay people do not do that stuff everyday. We have not judged this fellow employee like others have, and that has made him a happier person at work. I am proud of us!

Well it is Friday, were off to go relax! My right eyelid has been twitching a lot the past two days, so I looked up what causes it, and I found out it is Stress, fatigue, and too much caffeine. LOL. I would have to agree with all three of those, I need to chillax this weekend, get some sleep, and hold back on the coffee(NOO!!!). Have a lovely weekend!

Q: What would you like to see us post about on our blog? We have gotten request for a closet tour vlog, what ya wanna see from your court & whit, huh?…

I am so proud of you girls for being so nice to Dave! I have to admit that when I was his boss although I was nice to him, I did not give him a chance either (hence the reason he is not fully trained) I am proud of you two for taking the initative! …And no one wants to see a vlog of your closet TRUST ME PEOPLE, they have more clothes than anyone should ever be allowed to own!
I would like to see a vlog on one of your meals like a mini cooking show, or how you make your overnight oats!

That’s a shame that people don’t give Dave a chance. I am happy that you two girls are willing and thoughtful enough to go the extra mile to include him and be kind to him. That’s the greatest of all things: kindness. It can create so much: happiness, laughter, friendship, smiles, self-esteem, confidence, and success. You two are some really great girls! Keep up the strong, and caring attitudes. 🙂

Superstitions? Nah..I don’t believe in them. Today was a good day for until I had my nightly protein shake. I used some strawberry powder that I was sent to review. It was NASTY! Tasted like medicine. :/

You guys really are the greatest! I’m glad to know such kind people 😀 You should bring it up at a work meeting, though. :S Oh yeah, and: 20g of protein in that bar? REALLY? Can you show us the rest of the stats? That’s amazing!

Sounds like you girls should really consider a profession in Special Education. The world needs more teachers like you two – patient, kind and understanding! You should both be very proud of your compassion toward others. It’s something the world needs more of. 🙂

You guys are great – being your own people and standing up for what you think is right. My grandma has a halfway house around the corner from her and has told me that most of the people there are always offering to sweep her porch, shovel, rake leaves, etc. all for free. And that they are just like regular people and really nice. 🙂

That’s great that you girls were so kind to Dave! I’m sure he appreciated more than you can imagine.

    Pretty salad and oats!

What a great reminder to not a book by its cover. There really are some great people out there if we just take the time to get to know them! You girls are awesome. 🙂

Sorry about your bad luck, hopefully today is much better!

Great job with Dave, that’s so awesome of you guys! You’ve made work a less threatening and happier place for him to be. Keep it up, and hold onto that attitude 😉

I always seem to make friends with people others are wary of! getting to know new people! So glad you gave that dude a chance! I’m sure he reallllly appreciates it!

I, on the contrary, had an amazing day yesterday (Friday) which goes to show it isn’t always unlucky! Hopefully your next one wont be quite so bad xx

That’s so great that you’re being a friend to Dave. Even though it’s probably not easy to go out of your way to be nice to him it’s good you’re doing it!

I had a great day on Friday. I don’t get into all that superstition stuff!
