Focus and Zen

11 May

Hello, hello everyone!

Many of you high school readers out there only have a few weeks of school. And you know what that means… it is time to focus, pull up your grades, and get through this last stretch before FINALS! So here are some foods that are best for focus:

  • Salmon or Mackerel
The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are one of the primary building blocks of brain tissue.

For Focus

  • Peppermint Tea
Researchers found that it took a mere whiff of peppermint to increase subjects’ concentration and performance on tedious tasks.

For an Energy Boost

  • A Handful of Trail Mix
Raisins provide potassium, which you body uses to convert sugar into energy. Nuts stock your body with magnesium, which is important in metabolism, nerve function, and muscle function.

For Sharper Senses

  • 1 Tbs. of Ground Flaxseed Daily
Flax is the best source of alpha-linolenic acid a healthy fat that improves the workings of the cerebral cortex, the area of the brain that processes sensory information.

For Short-Term Memory

  • Coffee
Fresh-brewed joe is the ultimate brain fuel. Caffeine has been shown to retard the aging process and enhance short-therm memory performance.

For Long-Term Memory

  • Blueberries
Antioxidants in blueberries help protect the brain from free-radical damage, which could decrease your risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases and improve cognitive processing.

Well now on to the eats… here’s a recap of last night:

Dinner was a slice of BBQ chicken pizza on Nann’s and a slice of pepperoni/ham pizza.

Yum! This was definitely my fave 🙂

Dessert: Honey greek yogurt and 100 calories pack Oreo’s which Whit and I split. Look how many there are even with only half the bag!

Now on to today. It was a cold, dreary, rainy “B” day. We went to a long day of school then came home, ate a snack and did a yoga download: Yoga Sculpt 1. This was by far the hardest yoga I have ever done(even harder than P90X 1.5 hr video)! We downloaded the 45 min. class for $5.99. This workout was amazing. It incorporates Yoga with WEIGHTS! OMG… by the time it his 25 min., Whit and I were about to give up but instead sucked it up and finished 🙂 By the end of the video I was dripping sweat and already having muscle spasms. Never underestimate yoga, this workout was intense 😉

This morning’s breakfast was PB&J oats

We were out of banana’s so we opted. for strawberry and apple slices instead. It was still amazing as always.

Mid-morning snack: Toasted Nuts ‘n Cranberry Luna- This was not the best flavor of Luna, but it was not bad.

Lunch was a veggie salad paired with apple chips, dried mango, and almonds.

Afterschool snack: yogurt mess with kefir in my mini mu bowl!

Dinner: spaghetti. We used leftover hot dog buns to make garlic bread.

Dessert: Peanut Butter Cup Vita with hot cocoa!

Verdict: This was my second best flavor next to the mint! There were a bunch of peanut butter kisses in every bite, and heated was peanut butter heaven!

Well I am off to read some more Kite Runner, have a good night!

    Hey girls-

I love the blog. So great to see your commitments to health, your appreciations of exercise and your efforts to maintain balance in an otherwise hectic life!

I am just starting to blog, and would love any advice you’d have to lend!

Thanks! Some advice would be to have lots of pictures that represent how you want others to see your blog. When you go to someone’s blog, the first page is the thing that will draw you in, or make you click off, so I would say to just always draw people in, get creative, start conversations/discussions, and just Have Fun 🙂 Just truley let whatever is on your mind flow into the blog. lol

good luck on your finals girlies!!
at my school seniors don’t take finals (we have to do an intership instead) so i get to opt out of those dreaded test.

your garlic bread looks so good 🙂 love the oats too – strawberries add a nice/different kind of sweetness.
